Tip of the Day – Too many cooks

A common mistake we see when bidding, is for there to be multiple writers and owners across a bid. Sometimes this is due to organisations thinking the bid is too large for any one person to deal with. I would contest this view of working though; in my experience having one lead Bid Writer produces the best bids. This gives a clear voice throughout the document instead of a hodgepodge of different styles, which ultimately looks messy and unprofessional.

This advice also goes for Bid Management – have only one person managing the bid with an overview and control of what is exactly going on. In addition, have designated evaluators for questions / sections that have the final say on what they are evaluating.

Although multiple people will inevitably input to a bid, having clear and designated people for each role should result in a smooth process with minimal confusion. This is, if you have chosen the right people in the first place…but that is another day’s tip!
